“With Panaya, you don’t spend time emailing back and forth with the tester to get additional information. Once the defect is resolved, the tester is notified by Panaya that the issue is resolved and ready for them to retest.”

The Challenge

Entegris needed a solution to manage user acceptance testing remotely for a global SAP Ariba rollout. The company was looking to move away from Excel-based testing spreadsheets for systems outside of SAP ECC. Its challenges, specific to SAP testing, were standardization, remote collaboration, and scoping of correction activities.

For example, Entegris wanted to put all integration test scripts into a standardized test management platform for execution and audit purposes.

The Solution

Entegris has been using Panaya since 2011 for SPS/EhP Upgrades and user acceptance testing (UAT) for Strategic projects. For this business-led project, involving 50 globally dispersed business testers, Panaya was an obvious choice.

Here is how it works, explains Vicky Mesenbring, an IT Project Manager at Entegris: “Our test scripts are loaded into Panaya and the tester is able to record their testing while running their standard transactions. Panaya does all the work in capturing the screenshots. Once a test step is ready, the appropriate tester is notified by Panaya.”

“Another great feature,” adds Vicky, “is if the tester encounters an issue during testing they log a Defect in Panaya that is linked to the test. This is beneficial to the defect owner as they can review the testing evidence (as recorded by Panaya).

Vicky further explains that having all steps of each test automatically captured can be a great time saver. “With Panaya,” she adds, “you don’t spend time emailing back and forth with the tester to get additional information. Defects can be easily reproduced and once resolved, the tester is notified by Panaya that the issue reported by them is resolved and ready for them to retest.”

The Results

Entegris has seen increased efficiency in testing. IT Project Managers like Vicky now use Panaya’s dashboards to report out during team meetings and sponsor updates.  These out-of-the-box reports are easy to generate. They provide a quick snapshot into the current status of a test cycle and I can easily drill down into an area of interest, as needed. For example, if there are tests in a ‘Not Run’ status Project Managers can drill in to see if there are certain testers who might be overburdened or otherwise need assistance.

Since 2017 the Entegris Unit and Integration Test Script Library resides on the Panaya platform. Panaya’s functionality makes it easy to copy these test scripts into new projects. Entegris also uses the library to document new test scripts (i.e. new functionality created during projects). This is applied across all unit test and integration test scenarios.

Over the last couple of years,” explains Vicky, “we have seen an increase in Panaya adoption for smaller projects and for projects that do not have a direct SAP element. For example, testing of applications outside of the ERP landscape.”

“Panaya has a great product and is a true partner.” Vicky summarizes. “You guys are always working to improve the platform and listen to feature requests, submitted through the Customer Support portal.  The release notes clearly explain the new features being introduced.”
