Torres Upgraded From EHP3
to EHP7 in Only 3 Months

About
Torres

Founded in 1870 by Jaime Torres, Bodegas Torres (Miguel Torres SA) is a historical wine growing company located in Pacs del Penedès, some 4 kilometers from Vilafranca del Penedès, where the company has its head office. Torres is the family winery with the most extensive vineyards in the Denomination of Origin (DO) of Penedès and the largest winery in Spain.

Torres

“Panaya enabled us to plan and monitor the entire EHP7 project. My team of consultants and developers were able to track their tasks from one centralized dashboard. We all saw of our progress in real time.”

Torres is also Spain’s largest producer of Denomination of Origin wines under its own label, exporting to more than 140 countries.

Torres brand names include traditional wines such as Viña Sol, Sangre de Toro, De Casta, and Viña Esmeralda with their best known brandies being Torres 5 and Torres 10. The most renowned Single Vineyard wines are Mas La Plana, Reserva Real, Grans Muralles, Perpetual, Milmanda, Fransola (Spain), Manso de Velasco (Chile), the wines from the Don Miguel and Doña Margarita vineyards (California), and those made at the Jean Leon winery. Torres made two significant contributions to the development of enology in Spain: the use of fermentation at controlled temperatures, and the maturing of the wine in small oak barrels during a carefully defined time, as has been a habitual practice in Bordeaux.

Torres is managed by the fourth and fifth generation of the Torres family; Miguel A. Torres is the company’s current President and his son, Miguel Torres Maczassek is the General Manager. The Torres family are founding members of the Primum Familiae Vini.

The Challenge

Pere Figueras is the IT Manager at Torres. He and his team are responsible for managing more than 400 SAP users within a company of 1,300. Torres wines are sold in more than 150 countries, with a yearly turnover of over 240 million euros.

Torres’ SAP system was on EHP3 with a support package level that was past its lifecycle and had become obsolete. The SAP application team needed to implement too many SAP notes to achieve certain improvements and legal requirements, which was unfeasible.

The Solution

Torres standardized on Panaya for their SAP EHP7 upgrade. Mr. Figueras’ top goal was to minimize the impact of user testing and free up the consultants team as quickly as possible. He led a team of 4 consultants, 2 programmer analysts and 1 basis administrator to develop the project.

“Panaya enabled us to plan and monitor the entire EHP7 project. I was able to assign tasks to my SAP team with ease. My team of consultants and developers were able to track their tasks from one centralized dashboard. We all saw of our progress in real time.”

The Results

Torres completed their EHP7 upgrade in 3 months – on-time and on-budget with zero critical failures. Panaya  allowed Pere Figueras and his SAP team to focus their efforts on the most critical issues, according to fine-tuned criteria. “This allowed us to discriminate the low impact tasks to be dealt with later – post go-live,” says Mr. Figueras.

The bottom line? Torres upgraded from EHP3 to EHP7 in 3 months with zero critical failures.
